100% Nature Experience: A day of immersion at Le Veillon
For this new and joyful escapade, we offer you a fantastic immersion in one of the most beautiful sites in the Vendée.
The Payré estuary is a haven of peace, classified as a “Grand ensemble naturel” (a major natural site ), and which will soon be eligible for the “Grand site de France” label.
In our view, this request is entirely legitimate in many respects…
In addition to the breathtaking beauty of the site, this corner of paradise is also home to a unique biodiversity and is included in the NATURA 2000 protection zoning, with the Bois du Veillon constituting one of the most remarkable holm oak woodlands on the Atlantic coast.
To make the most of the program we’ve put together for you, we’ve prepared a list of things you won’t want to forget at the campsite…
Make sure you have…
- A pair of sneakers
- A picnic (you’ll find plenty of bucolic spots on the site to enjoy this moment).
- Water and the usual sun protection (cream, cap, parasol or beach tent…)
- Beach games to end the day in style.
There’s nothing better than an early-morning appetizer to discover the Veillon site…
The hike we’ve selected offers a great overview of the entire site.
You’ll walk along the dune, up the river Le Payré before arriving at the oyster huts.
The variety of landscapes, the shades of color, the ambient calm, the grandeur of Mother Nature – how can we fail to be bowled over by this postcard setting?

Some practical information about the hike…
“Dune, forest, Veillon marshes
Departure is from the Plage du Veillon parking lot.
There are no major difficulties on this route, but the sandy sections mean you’ll have to leave your baby carriages in the boot of your car.
Hiking time: about 1H30
Distance: 6 km

A well-deserved lunch break on the way back…
There’s no doubt that this hike will whet your appetite. There’s a picnic area with tables in the Veillon woods. If you’d like to enjoy a more intimate setting, simply continue on your way and rest in a cove or under the shade of a holm oak.
Alternatively : Book a table at the Restaurant de la Plage.
This restaurant offers a sublime view of the Veillon site.
It’s also an excellent compromise, offering excellent value for money.
The chefs use quality local produce and homemade sauces.
Burgers, fish, meat, mixed salads – how about a bite to eat?

The Veillon beach offers a remarkable playground.
The setting is idyllic: a beach of fine golden sand and turquoise water. You’re not dreaming, you’ve just landed on a Caribbean pearl… but in the Vendée.
